Small Talk: David Ortiz Reveals What He’d Do If He Didn’t Play Baseball

In this week’s edition of “Small Talk,” Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz answers the big questions from little kids.

1. Do you like music?
I like music. Music gets me going, puts me in a good mood.

2. Who has the worst taste in music on the team?
It’s got to be (second baseman Dustin) Pedroia, the one that has the worst taste for music. Definitely. One hundred percent.

3. Which player inspired you to play baseball?
Rest in peace, my man, Kirby Puckett. The first game I ever sat down and watched, he was a part of it, and it was a great experience.

4. How did you hit so many home runs in the 2004 World Series?
I think it was my preparation, just a lot of hard work. I watched a lot of videos of the guy that I’m facing.

5. What’s your favorite movie?
“Scarface.”

6. Do you think you’ll ever hit over .400?
For about a week, yes. Not the whole season. You’re not allowed to in today’s day.

7. Do you like being a designated hitter?
Yeah. That’s what I’ve been doing for a while. It’s not an easy thing to do, but I kind of got used to it, worked on it, and here we are.

8. Do your kids like to play iPad games?
My boy, D’Angelo, he loves being on the iPad. I cannot control that. I have him just playing on his iPad during the weekends so he focuses in school during the week.

9. If you weren’t playing baseball, what would you be doing?
I don’t know exactly, exactly what I’d be doing, but I’d definitely be dealing with auto parts. I like auto parts. That kind of runs in my family, and I think I’d be doing something related to that.
