Small Talk: Jake Peavy Talks Drake, Reveals His Childhood Dream

Jake Peavy is on the hot seat this week as he fields questions from kids about everything from his childhood dreams to what his wristbands represent.

1. Cheetahs can go about 70 mph. Who is the fastest on the team?

Aiden, we lost the fastest person off last year’s team. I would say Jacoby Ellsbury was our fastest guy. I would have to say Jackie Bradley Jr. is gonna take that home this year, and he’ll be playing the position that Jacoby was playing, so he’ll be the fastest. I don’t know, however, if he’s as fast as a cheetah or a jet airplane — I think I heard that in there.

2. What is it like to be old?

Come on Will, I feel like I’m young! I’m 32 years old and I’ve played this game for an awfully long time, but I feel like I’m as young as you. I feel like if we went and got a chance to play together, you would feel like I’m no older than you.

3. Do you like listening to Drake?

Of course I like listening to Drake. Drake played one of our win songs last year, so we heard it quite often and we enjoy all kinds of music in the clubhouse. And I tell you what, you better keep that singing up because you’ve got a future ahead of you, that sounded awesome.

4. Has anybody ever made you a bracelet?

Matthew, that’s one of my favorite questions that I’ve gotten today because, yes, I have some bracelets that I wear that mean a ton to me. One is “Boston Strong” and we all know what that stands for, and we all want to remember the strength that everybody showed in the city after such tough times. Then the other two are two that my little boys gave me to wear, and so, I always look down and remember my little boys who are right around your age. So I wear my bracelets to, one, commemorate what the city went through and then also to have a little bit of my boys with me at all times. That’s a very cool question.

5. What did you want to be when you were little?

I wanted to be just what I became — I wanted to play baseball. I loved sports my whole life. I love video games, as well, I just wasn’t very good at them, so maybe if we ever get a chance to hang out you can teach me some technique because I could certainly use it.

6. What are you thankful for?

I’m thankful for so much in my life. I’m thankful that I have a great job, that it’s something that I enjoy doing. I’m thankful for my family. I have some little boys that I talked about that are your guys’ age and some a little bit older, and I’m thankful for them and their health and just the life that we all get to live.
