Small Talk: Mike Napoli Talks About His Favorite Music And Best Friend

In this week’s edition of “Small Talk,” Boston Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli answers the big questions from little kids.

1. Do you know the difference between an obtuse angle and an acute angle
Acute is small, and obtuse is big.

2. Have you ever seen “The Breakfast Club”
I haven’t seen “The Breakfast Club,” but you gave a pretty good description of the movie. I’ll have to check it out.

3. In “The Breakfast Club” they go to detention. Did you ever go to detention?
I did go to detention, but I learned my lesson from getting in trouble and never went back.

4. If you had a man on first base and third base, you had one out, you were going to the playoffs (if you won the game), and it was your last game of the season and you were getting beaten by one run, would you throw to home plate, or would you make the double play?
It all depends on how the ball is hit. If it’s hit hard to me, I’m going to try to turn the double play, but if it’s not hit as hard so we can’t hit the double play, I’m going to go to home so we can get that out and that run doesn’t score.

5. I think this is a tape for a DVR. I think you can watch shows on this. Is this how you used to watch shows?
I don’t think I watched it on that. The stuff I watched it on was on DVD.

6. I like to listen to dubstep. Do you like that kind of music?
Yeah, actually, I do listen to dubstep. I like all the different songs they do with it.

7. Do you have a best friend on the team?
They actually all are my best friends, but I’d have to go with Dustin Pedroia. He’s my buddy and my lockermate. We do a lot of stuff off the field together.

8. If I could be any animal I would be a black bear because I like to eat turkeys, and black bears eat turkeys. If you saw a black bear, what would you do?
You’re a little braver than I am because if I saw a black bear, I’m running.

9. My favorite planet is Earth. Have you ever been to Jupiter?
I haven’t, but I’ve been to Jupiter, Fla. It’s a Spring Training site. I think the (New York) Mets play there. I’ve been to Jupiter, Fla., but not the planet.

10. I think Dustin Pedroia has a good voice. Does he?
I think Dustin Pedroia thinks he’s got a good voice, but no, it’s not that good. I’ve heard him sing before, and it’s terrible.
